Lot 2355
PHOENICIA. Aradus (?). Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. AE (Bronze, 11 mm, 2.00 g, 12 h). Bare head (of Augustus?) to right. Rev. ΑΡ Crescent; above, star. RPC I 4876A. Repatinated and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This enigmatic issue was previously assigned to Ascalon in Judaea based on a false reading of the reverse legend as 'AΣ'. The actual legend 'AP' makes Arados a more likely candidate.
